Christmas 2008; the presents

In the unfortunate wake of a LYS going out of business, Mom ended up buying me enough yarn to provide me with stash for at least a year. This is partially Christmas and partially for my *gulp* 30th birthday. . .

I have plans for some of it, and the rest I'll let speak to me.

This will become a Samus.

This pile of 100% alpaca will become a soft lacy cardigan.

This pile of alpaca/merino/silk will be a tomato sweater, but with different stripes

And more socks!
I don't have any specific plans for the various single skeins of Cascade, but Mom also got me 101 one-skein wonders, so those go well together!

And Mom Kass got me some seriously awesome yarn, it's called Kauni and it has super long color repeats. There's a pattern for a sweater which uses two skeins simultaneously, alternating and letting the colors change against each other. It'll be easier to show, once I cast that sweater on!

Economic Stimulus

My economic stimulus check arrived, and I decided that Jeff and I should make good use of it. In NOLA, of course I spent quite a bit a quarter stitch and I spent a bunch at the Scrap Happy Quilter as well. Couldn't touch on that one though so I didn't spoil the surprise for Mom!

It was a fun little quilt shop, and I ended up with a bunch of fat quarters, some for me, some for Mom, and a book which uses fabric coiled around clothesline, then sewn together to make bowls and purses and stuff. It sounds neat!

Then this past weekend I visited my favorite yarn shop in GA, The Oconee Yarn Company. She was having a sale, and oh boy did I stock up.

First, she had a box of yarn which was comprised of partially used skeins. They were marked $1 each, and I pretty much bought her out of natural fiber skeins.

These skeins all feel pretty full. I'll have to weigh them tonight and see just how much got used, but I really don't think that much at all was pulled out of these.

Then I stocked up on some fun sock yarn.

Some really neat self-striping yarn that will make flag socks

Some Berroco Sox, something new!

Some Cascade 200 Superwash for finishing Mom K's felted vest. It's a slightly mottled brown, which is exactly what I was looking for. I think it goes really well with the bright yellow which is the body of the vest.

Tofutsies!

Can you tell I liked working with the Tofutsies yarn? Heck! I'm even planning on making socks for Jeff's paddle-feet with it!

My mom also gave me some wool which was donated to her Project Linus group, but since it's wool they can't use it. I'll make a blanket on my USM as a donation of time for this. It's really nice, and back when Red Heart made wool! It's a bit scratchy, but I'll figure something to do with it.

A little stash enhancement

Today was the 1 year anniversary of the Hillsborough Yarn Shop, the Local Yarn Store that showcases my yarn!

Well, I went to the little party, had some fun, and traded in the other two skeins of yarn in the "cherry cordial" colorway that I'd spun up a few weeks ago. I'd had a few nibbles of interest, but everyone quailed at the final price. Fine. I know where to go where people appreciate my handiwork.

I got this, and still have $47 left over in store credit.

ahhh, that's better. I'll just rub it on my hand and the soreness will go away, right?

Oh, and I updated yesterday's post with a picture of the hand. The yellowness is even more pronounced than it is in the picture, but at least it's the color of a healing bruise.

Flashing My Stash!

Okay, so maybe I went a little overboard, but I was wayyyyy too excited about amassing a stash of some gorgeous woolen roving. I ordered this from The Sheepshed Studio. It's a total of 8 lbs, with what looks like a bonus 0.5 lb bag of teal thrown in for good measure. It got here very fast, and about the only thing I wish was that the black was a little more solid black, but what I have is absolutely lovely. And they're mill ends, so I really can't be terribly picky, other than the general category of color they're selling.

Here's some fiber Pr0n!
